• Early Birds is a free school readiness program offered by Smart Start Central Oklahoma for parents-to-be and parents of children from birth to five years old. Classes are offered three times a year in both Spanish and English, with trained instructors covering topics appropriate to each age group from 0 – 5. While parents attend classes, free child care is provided by certified professionals.

Each class lasts for 90 minutes, and covers five core areas: developmental milestones, parent and child activities, everyday learning, purposeful parenting, and family health and wellness. Through Early Birds, parents are taught how to take advantage of teachable moments throughout the day. Parents also receive activities, educational toys, and books to stimulate their child’s development and learning.

Early Birds has helped thousands of Oklahoma County parents give their children the smart start they deserve. Click here to find a class near you.

  • Smart Start in the Schools is a partnership among Smart Start Central Oklahoma, Metropolitan Library System, and Oklahoma City Public Schools. It is a collaborative family engagement initiative that promotes school readiness activities to parents and caregivers of young children.

Parents/Caregivers and their young children attend events at the participating local school where they participate in a fun activity with their child led by a trained facilitator, have the opportunity to speak to a community resource specialist, and are given an age-appropriate book for their child(ren). Dates are subject to change. To learn more about this program, please contact Peggy Brinson at hadleigh1@cox.net
